Eid-e-Milad 2016: History and significance of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi Eid-e-Milad is a day to celebrate and to mourn since it is both the birth and death anniversaries of the Prophet Muhammad. It is a day dedicated to Prophet Mohammad and his teachings. However, Eid-e-Milad is both a day to celebrate and to mourn, since it is also the death anniversary of the Prophet. According to popular belief, the Holy Prophet was born on the twelfth day of Rabee-ul-Awwal in 570 CE in Mecca. Rabi-ul-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
